College Students’Problems in Writing Introduction For Research Proposal

Abstract

The aim of this study is  toidentifythe problems faced by students  in writing introduction for research proposal. Participants involved 20 undergraduate students at the STKIP YayasanAbdiPendidikanPayakumbuh.A qualitative method was used in this research. Students  completed an open ended questionnaire  with fifteen items. The results show that there were eight problems facedby students in writing introduction for research proposal. The problem related to the selecting research topic,  starting the paragraph with topic sentence, writing formulation of the problem, determining research gap, writing thesis statement, using correct grammar, vocabulary, and writing mechanics.This study confirmsthat  college students still had problem in writing introduction for research proposal although they had learn how to write academic writing subject.This findings  and are in line with the findings of similar studies conducted in other university settings. Thus, it was recommended that further studies should intensively investigate students’ problems and the factors cause it.
